Cavaliers report: Getting inside
The Cavs' Fearless Foursome has been outstanding in the last two games of their series against the Celtics. The four players acquired on Feb. 21 are strutting their stuff: --Forward/center Ben Wallace had nine points, nine rebounds and two blocks in Game 3 on Saturday. He gives the Cavs added confidence when he's on the court. He's done a solid job on Kevin Garnett on the low post. He had seven rebounds in Game 4. --Guard/forward Wally Szczerbiak had 16 points, including two 3-point goals, in Game 3. Szczerbiak has outplayed Celtics guard Ray Allen thus far in the series. The Cavs' veteran had 14 points Monday. "(Allen is) a great shooter," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "He'll make shots. We like the matchup but haven't gotten much out of it so far." --Guard Delonte West had 21 points, seven assists and five rebounds in Game 3. He wasn't nearly as effective Monday, with six points and one assist. --Forward/center Joe Smith had 17 points and six rebounds in Game 3. He came back with eight points and six rebounds in Game 4. "They have a great feel for the game of basketball," Cavs coach Mike Brown said. If the supporting cast continues to make shots, the Celtics won't be able to load up on forward LeBron James as much on defense. CAVALIERS 88, CELTICS 77: Despite struggling to make jump shots, LeBron James continues to have a huge impact on this series. He has left an indelible impression in the Eastern Conference semifinals. James had 21 points, 13 assists and six rebounds in the Cavaliers' victory in Game 4 on Monday at Quicken Loans Arena. Even his mother got involved in the fray. The critics might point to the fact that he made only 7-of-20 field goals Monday and is shooting 25.6 percent from the field in the series. "You think LeBron is struggling?" Celtics coach Doc Rivers asked. "We don't think he's struggling. He's still making a lot of plays. We are forcing him to take tough shots. Other than Game 1, I think he's having a terrific series." The best-of-seven series is tied 2-2 heading into Game 5 on Wednesday at TD Banknorth Garden. "We've turned it into a three-game series," James said. Things got a bit testy with 4:13 remaining in the first half when James drove to the basket. Celtics forward Paul Pierce tried to wrap him up, but James' momentum pulled both players into the stands. Suddenly, Celtics forward Kevin Garnett and James' mother, Gloria, joined the scrum. James instructed his mother in no uncertain terms to stay out of it. "Sit your (butt) down!" he screamed. Despite his shooting struggles, James hit a key 3-pointer with 3:18 to play. That snapped a scoreless draught of more than four minutes by the Cavs. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange.
