Lakers report: Getting inside
If the Lakers can't control Utah point guard Deron Williams a little better, they'll probably be facing a Game 7 Monday night at Staples Center. Williams will look to stay hot Friday night in Game 6 in Utah with the Jazz on the brink of elimination. Williams had 27 points and 10 assists in Game 5 against Derek Fisher and Jordan Farmar even though the Lakers were determined to keep Williams out of the lane. One thing Williams will hope to shore up: He had four turnovers. Another thing: Williams will certainly be trying to make teammate Carlos Boozer (6-for-16 field-goal shooting in Game 5) more efficient. "We missed some shots that we normally make," Williams said of Game 5. Williams also took pride in Utah committing just four second-half turnovers after the Jazz had 15 in the first half. LAKERS 111, JAZZ 104: The Lakers had to break from tradition and win without much Kobe Bryant scoring, but they did win that way -- taking Game 5 of their second-round series with the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night at Staples Center to take the series lead. Bryant still had 26 points and seven assists despite his sore back. But there were plenty of big buckets by Bryant's teammates in the fourth quarter, none bigger than Pau Gasol's follow-up dunk of Sasha Vujacic's 3-point miss with 20.5 seconds left. Gasol's basket gave the Lakers a 107-102 lead, and he finished with 21 points, eight assists and four blocks. Bryant had three fourth-quarter points, all on free throws in the late going. Lamar Odom had seven of his 22 points in the fourth period. Utah shot just 8 for 24 (33.3 percent) in the fourth quarter. Copyright (C) 2008 The Sports Xchange. All Rights Reserved.
