Despite natural athleticism and size, Addai plays small and has not been able to claim the starter's job all to himself. For a player with such quick feet and agility, he runs very upright, which really limits his power and explosiveness. Doesn't play anywhere close to his timed speed, and despite very good quickness and agility, he is not the type of runner that can make tacklers miss. Does have the vision and instincts when running with the ball to find the hole, but he lacks an explosive burst through the hole to shoot by defenders and make big plays. His hands help him to catch passes well out of the backfield. Agility, balance, quickness, instincts and ability to follow blockers makes him a good runner after the catch in the open field. Overall, despite having the measured size of a starter, Addai is best suited to being a backup or a third-down back and returner (both punt and kickoff). Additionally, his pass-blocking ability will make him a valuable back that will get a lot of playing time in passing situations. Able to adjust after the snap and block different defenders that are rushing the quarterback.

STRONG POINTS
Addai is a very quick and agile runner with the feet to make sharp cuts and can bounce inside runs outside when the middle is clogged up. Has very good vision and instincts, and really shows patience following his blockers and cutting sharply off their blocks. Has good hands catching passes out of the backfield and can make sharp cuts in the open field, which makes him a good open-field runner. Has the strength and balance to keep his feet when taking hard hits. Does a good job of pass blocking -- can cut block or block upright, and is effective doing both.
WEAKNESSES
Despite measured size, Addai looks like a third-down back on film and plays smaller than his size. While he can keep feet against hits, he lacks the power and strength to break tackles. An upright runner that takes a lot of hits because of it, and struggles to run with power on inside rushes. Not a shake-and-bake runner that can make tacklers miss. Despite being a good athlete, he lacks the explosive burst and top-end speed you expect from a guy who runs a 4.4 in the 40.

ATHLETIC ABILITY
Section Grade: 6.0
Addai has many traits of an exceptional player, but his lack of explosiveness and top-end speed keep him in the good athlete category. Has very quick feet and great change-of-direction agility -- can easily bounce runs outside when the middle is clogged up. Quick feet, balance and surprising strength help him to keep feet against hard hits. Shows good flexibility when bending his knees to pass block. Has decent leverage and a wide base, and can get down low to catch those passes. Doesn't show flexibility when running with the ball -- he is an upright runner who looks a bit stiff when carrying the ball. Athleticism and coordination enables him to keep his feet when making sharp cuts and when adjusting to make tough catches.

COMPETITIVENESS
Section Grade: 6.0
Addai is a tough football player when it comes to blocking aggressively and fighting for extra yards, but he doesn't attack the line of scrimmage when carrying the ball and has not proven his toughness as a full-time back. Has shown a knack for making big plays when he is in the game on important downs, which usually is in passing situations. However, he was not LSU's featured back and had not been their go-to back in all situations. Overall production has been solid when he got the chances, but because he rotated with other backs throughout his college career, his total production has been just adequate -- although he has been productive as a return man. Definitely a team player when you see that he split time in the backfield throughout career, and that has not created any problems in the locker room. A surprisingly competitive runner that keeps his feet churning and fights for the extra yards until he is on the ground.

MENTAL ALERTNESS
Section Grade: 6.5
Addai is a smart football player and makes it apparent when you see how well he does in pass protection -- he uses good technique and always seems to be in the right place to pick up the free man. Has very good instincts and vision, and his very quick feet enable him to react quickly to what he sees. Does a good job of maintaining his focus and concentration during the game, which is what helps him to be productive -- most players who rotate in and out of games are not consistent like Addai is.

STRENGTH/EXPLOSION
Section Grade: 5.0
Addai definitely has the body type you want in terms of measured size, but on film he looks remarkably small and much more like a third-down back than a featured back. Addai is tough enough to be durable, the reality is that any running back that has never carried the load as the full-time featured back in college is a definite question mark when it comes to NFL durability. Addai's explosiveness is very interesting in that he has the quick feet and burst to bounce runs outside when the middle is clogged up, but he is not explosive through the hole and doesn't have the burst to run away from the defense. Has good enough playing strength to keep his feet against hard hits, but has not shown the strength to break tackles and gain yards after contact.
