Marshall is a junior who came out early for the draft and while he will be drafted high, he could have really helped himself by staying for his senior season. He has good size for a corner -- he actually looks taller on the "Hoof." He has long arms and seems to enjoy playing physical in man coverage. He can re-route receivers downfield with physical play and does a very good job of cutting off and squeezing receivers between himself and the sideline deep down the field. He has the quick feet, agility and explosive closing burst to plant, drive and close quickly on passes in front of him and he uses his long arms well to break up passes and has the hands to cut in front of receiver to make the tough interception. While he is not pretty when he tackles, he does consistently find a way to get his man to the ground. Overall, Marshall is a rare cornerback with size, athleticism, quick feet and playing speed and is willing to play very physical with receiver. He will need a season to improve his footwork/backpedal/technique, but will become a good starting cornerback who can do a good job in all types of coverage and can make interceptions/big plays.

STRONG POINTS
Marshall is a good athlete with the size and long arms to be very effective in all types of coverage. He has the quick feet to backpedal fast and when he stays over his feet, he can transition and close quickly on passes. He has the smooth, flexible hips to turn and run without losing a step and can stay with a receiver all over the field when he maintains his focus/concentration. He does a good job of using his front arm to break up passes and can cut in front of the receiver to make the tough interception. He has shown the strength to jolt the receiver with a hard punch and can cut off and squeeze the receiver to the sideline on the deep route.
WEAKNESSES
Marshall does not do a good job of consistently using good footwork/technique. He gets up high in the backpedal and struggles to transition quickly. He does not always read the receiver's route well and can be turned around when he does and he does not consistently recover in time to close and break up the pass. He does not break down and use good tackling technique consistently. He does not fight through blockers consistently hard to make tackles and often allows himself to be blocked out of the play too easily.

ATHLETIC ABILITY
Section Grade: 6.0
Marshall is a good athlete and that has helped him to be a productive cornerback despite inconsistent technique and focus. He has the quick feet to backpedal fast and can transition out of the pedal to close quickly on short passes in front of him when he stays over his feet in the backpedal. His agility and balance combine with his quick feet to let him spin around fast and close quickly to get back into good coverage position when he gets turned around by good receiver fakes. He can change directions quickly and has a burst in the other direction to catch up when he loses a step in coverage. He has good hips and they combine with his quick feet to help him flip hips to turn and run with the receiver without losing a step. He has the hands, quick closing burst and body control to close fast, cut in front of the receiver and make tough interceptions.

COMPETITIVENESS
Section Grade: 6.0
Marshall's inate toughness to play through pain is definitely good enough, but he does not consistently play physical or aggressive in coverage and it hinders his production. On the most important plays, he has consistently shown a knack for cranking up his intensity and playing his best; he especially does an excellent job in the red zone. His overall production is good, but it is not always consistent because of his inconsistent technique/backpedal. When he gets up high in backpedal, he struggles to read and react consistently because his transition gets inconsistent and when he is not aggressive with his hands in press coverage, he allows an inside release too easily and does not close and break up the pass consistently. While he is generally a good team player in that he will tackle when he gets the chance, he does not consistently fight through blocks to make tackles and allows himself to be blocked out of the play a little too easily.

MENTAL ALERTNESS
Section Grade: 5.5
Marshall definitely is smart enough -- you can tell when you see his technique in press coverage and his use of his body to shield and squeeze the receiver on deep passes. He has very good instincts and, when he uses good technique/footwork, he can read and react quickly to passes, but when he loses focus and gets upright in pedal, he struggles to transition and react consistently quick. The thing that hurts Marshall most is that he does not consistently maintain his focus/concentration on every snap and it hinders his ability to read and react to passes on a consistent basis. He's slow to transition and close fast.

STRENGTH/EXPLOSION
Section Grade: 6.0
Marshall has good size for a cornerback. He basically measures out as the average NFL corner, which is good and he looks bigger on the "Hoof." He has been a durable player at Fresno State and, with his size, strength and flexibility, he can be a durable NFL cornerback. He is a naturally explosive cornerback and, when he stays over feet and under control, he can plant, drive and close explosively to break up passes very easily. He has good playing strength for a cornerback. He can jam the receiver and really slow his release when he is aggressive with his hands and can be a strong, physical tackler when he stays over his feet and tackles with good technique. Overall, for a cornerback, he has the combination of size, strength and explosiveness that is tough to find.
