WR Smith loves Panthers offense: Panthers WR Steve Smith is surrounded by talent in the form of old and new teammates. Muhsin Muhammad and D.J. Hackett will attempt to take some of the pressure off Smith in the passing game. Right tackle Jeff Otah helps shore up a super-sized offensive line. And under center is the Panthers' captain, Jake Delhomme. Smith sees a big difference with his team heading into 2008. "I think we finally made an upgrade compared to the years prior," Smith said after an early June offseason workout. "As those guys had left we really hadn't replenished. We have finally, and I can honestly see a big difference." (Updated 06/05/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Smith added that Delhomme's arm is stronger and not showing any weakness. We've heard from Smith about Carolina's offense before, but we can't judge them based on much of last season since when Delhomme got hurt, the Panthers' season went down the tubes. While Fantasy owners who had Smith in '07 will be disenchanted with him, keen drafters should be able to sneak him onto rosters with a pick between Rounds 3 and 4. You can't argue with his production or track record, so just hope that Delhomme doesn't get hurt again. We see Smith as a No. 1 Fantasy WR in '08. (Updated 06/05/2008).
