Jets sign LB Calvin Pace: The Jets signed linebacker Calvin Pace on Monday, continuing the team's busy free-agency period. Pace, Arizona's first-round pick in 2003, signed a six-year, $42 million deal that included a $20 million signing bonus. Pace, 27, underperformed for most of his five seasons with the Cardinals, but is coming off his best year. He had 98 tackles, 6 1/2 sacks and an interception after moving from defensive end to linebacker full-time. "We think he can help in our defense," general manager Mike Tannenbaum said. "We saw him play in the 3-4 defense last year and we're excited to get him." (Updated 03/03/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Look for Pace to fit in well with the Jets. He should be considered at worst a No. 3 Fantasy LB in 2008. (Updated 03/03/2008).
OLB Calvin Pace had a breakthrough year for Arizona with a career-high 6.5 sacks. He parlayed that season into a six-year, $42 million contract from the Jets. After signing the deal, Pace said he wasn't a "savior." That may be true, but for the money they spent, the Jets don't merely want him to blend in. They believe that Pace, who blossomed last season as a 3-4 outside linebacker, will be a perfect fit for their defense as he possesses the ability to rush from the edge and also drop into coverage when necessary. They also believe he is smart enough to excel in their complicated defensive system. The Jets invested a lot of money in Pace and are hoping for immediate returns. 07/17/2008

Vernon Gholston's holdout lasted one day and two practices. Gholston's agent, Ben Dogra, said the pass rusher's contract is worth $50 million, with $21 million guaranteed over five years with the Jets.
Everybody knows the Jets upgraded their offensive line through free agency, but an equally important to the offense is the addition of four-time Pro Bowl fullback Tony Richardson, Clark Judge says.
