Lightning welcome Malone to team: The Tampa Bay Lightning signed left wing Ryan Malone to a seven-year contract on Monday. Malone was acquired from Pittsburgh along with Gary Roberts, who signed a one-year on Monday with Tampa Bay, last weekend in exchange for a conditional draft pick in 2009. Malone played in 77 games with the Penguins last season, scoring 27 goals with 51 points. Canadian sports channel TSN reported Sunday night that Malone's deal would be worth $35.1 million. (Updated 07/01/2008).

Fantasy Analysis
Malone had a career season as the Penguins made it all the way to the Stanley Cup Finals. He also proved to be a solid two-way player as he spent a career-high 103 minutes in the penalty box. Malone will likely start the season on the top line with Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis. It's a great place to be, but Fantasy owners have to realize he is still the third option behind those two guys. Fantasy owners will want to consider him Malone of a No. 4 or No. 5 forward on Draft Day 2008. (Updated 07/01/2008).
