Laperriere reaches 100 penalty minutes: Red Wings D Nicklas Lidstrom suffered a knee injury early in the first period Monday against the Avalanche when he was checked into the boards by Ian Laperriere. Lidstrom, who came in leading all defenseman with 57 points, hobbled off the ice -- with the assistance of a referee -- and didn't return. The Red Wings took exception to Laperriere's hit and Aaron Downey went after him later in the period. The two exchanged blows before being separated, both drawing penalties for fighting. Downey and Laperriere squared off again in front of Detroit's bench early in the third period. They then argued through the glass in the penalty box as they served 10-minute majors. Fantasy Analysis
Laperriere took the two penalties Monday for a total of 15 minutes in the box. He has now reached 100 penalty minutes for the season. It was the third straight season has has managed 100 PIM and the 11th time in his career. Laperriere is actually one of the better two-way players in the NHL. He is merely a low-end Fantasy flier in standard formats and also has a lot of value in leagues that reward heavily for PIM. (Updated 02/19/2008).
