DiPietro's season over after surgery: The New York Islanders announced Wednesday that G Rick DiPietro will have hip surgery Wednesday and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. He is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready for training camp later this year. This will be DiPietro's second hip surgery in as many years. "Rick wanted badly to be with his team until the end of the season, but this decision was made with his best long-term interests in mind," said Islanders general manager Garth Snow. (Updated 03/19/2008).

Hip - Questionable for start of training camp (Updated - 5/10/08)
Fantasy Analysis
DiPietro tweaked his hip during the All-Star weekend and never really recovered. The fact this is his second surgery on the joint in two years is a little worrying, but the Islanders sound pretty confident about his ability to play at a high level in the future. A low-end No. 1/high-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie when healthy, DiPietro should be released in all regular formats at this time. The Islanders TG should be avoided at all costs. (Updated 03/19/2008).
