Wings' Franzen to miss Game 5 of Western Conference finals

DETROIT -- NHL playoff goal-scoring leader Johan Franzen will miss his fourth straight game when the Detroit Red Wings face the Dallas Stars in Game 5 of the Western Conference finals Saturday.

Detroit general manager Ken Holland said Franzen has been cleared for light workouts. But Holland said the center would need to practice with the team for a few days before returning to the lineup.

Franzen was scratched from the Red Wings' lineup for Game 2 against the Stars and missed the next two games as well because of concussion-like symptoms.

He has had recurring headaches dating to early in the previous series.

Detroit leads the Dallas series 3-1.

Franzen has scored a franchise-record 12 goals in the postseason.

This is a smart move to sit Franzen for game five, even if he's not fully healthy.  They will no doubt win the series with or without Franzen and maybe they can count on Philly to extend the East series.  The Wings are a much better team with Franzen on the ice - though they still are one of the best without him.

It should be ok. Maybe we will be lucky and have him back by the beginnin of the Finals. Don't want him to rush if its something serious like this.
