GM Martin reaches deal with Panthers

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) -Jacques Martin has reached an agreement to remain with the Florida Panthers as general manager through the 2011-12 season, the team said Friday.

Martin was stripped of his duties as head coach last month but said he would stay on as general manager. He said then the two jobs were too much for one person.

He became coach in 2004 and took over as general manager in 2006, replacing Mike Keenan. The Panthers went 38-35-9 last season and missed the playoffs, extending a postseason drought that dates to 2000.
