Every NHL team's hope is to get as healthy as possible toward the end of the regular season, thus being in top form for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

The Ducks are seemingly headed in the wrong direction.

One night after losing goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere to back spasms, the Ducks played without top-line center and leading scorer Ryan Getzlaf, who was unavailable for Saturday night's 2-1 victory at Phoenix after having suffered an unspecified upper-body injury the night before in a 2-1 loss at San Jose.

Giguere and Getzlaf joined right wing Corey Perry, the club's second-leading scorer, and center Ryan Carter on the injured list. The Ducks are also without Chris Pronger, the team's top-scoring defenseman, who is merely halfway through an eight-game, NHL-imposed suspension for having stepped on the leg of Vancouver Canucks center Ryan Kesler during a March 12 game.

"It's about team," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "We feel that we have a work ethic and if we stay with our structure and stay with our system, we can have success even when we don't have all our personnel. We had some key personnel out (Saturday), but that's reality in the NHL. You have to win when people are out. Other people have to step to the forefront."

The Ducks are going on the assumption that the injuries to Giguere and Getzlaf will be relatively short term, with either or both possibly ready for Wednesday's game against Los Angeles at Honda Center. Carter figures to be out until at least close to playoff time, with Perry likely to be unavailable until at least the second round of post-season play, if the Ducks advance that far. Carter has a broken wrist and Perry a partially severed tendon in his right leg.

DUCKS 2, COYOTES 1: Making a second consecutive start for the first time this season, on back-to-back nights no less, rookie Jonas Hiller came through with a second consecutive stellar performance. Hiller registered 30 saves and permitted only a third-period, power-play goal to Phoenix defenseman Ed Jovanovski. Teemu Selanne, meanwhile, scored both Ducks goals, on a first-period breakaway and a third-period power play, each time with an assist from Todd Bertuzzi. The Ducks won despite playing without Jean-Sebastien Giguere and the team's top two scorers, Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry, because of injuries, and the suspended Chris Pronger, who leads Anaheim defensemen in scoring.

I am sick and tired of watching this team make fools of themselves in this series.  We don't belong here we don't deserve to win.  Giguere is an absolute JOKE and a BUST for this playoff run.  How can he look at himself in the mirror knowing he gave up freakin 14 goals in 4 games???  How could Randy C. keep him in??  Just mail it in on game 5, you will anyway, and try and ...(more)

That first game was an utter disaster.  They played so well for the first 10 minutes and then seemingly fell a part out of no where.  I thought that was the best opening 10 minutes they played all year.  The penalty kill KILLED us, 4 power play goals for the Stars is horrible.  They never really got a quality shot on Gi ...(more)

I told you they would mail it in for game 5.  Same old stuff from this team, for game 5.  Poor defense, weak offense, dumb penalties, and a zillion turnovers.  At least they were able to avoid a sweep and win a few games.   By the way, I think I saw Doug Weight's picture on a carton of milk.   H ...(more)

Does anyone have an idea how many games he will or may miss.  All I read is questionable but nothing more specific.  Get back Duck fans if you know.

Thanks

as a wings fan I really don't like the Ducks much by any stretch of the imagination..however, did anyone see that wrap around goal by selanne that was called no goal?  can you say makeup call?  I don't even like the ducks but that one was pretty clear even to me that it was a goal.

just my two cents

This has been a difficult year for the Ducks, they have been up and down and scoring is a problem along with a lapse in defense at points.  While the Ducks showed lapses last year, they were intimidating the whole time were this year they were intimidating basically when they won and that was it.  Here are my viewpoints and pr ...(more)

Forget the weak forecheck, the lackluster offense, and terrible penalty kill I know the real reason the Ducks lost last night. The worst pregame show/psych up in Ducks playoff history. Flags carried by the jr. ducks?, the "I want it all" song?, the "do u want it, do you need it" song? Really? I mean come on could you ...(more)

The Pronger Stomping says it all. Pronger is the dirtiest player in the league. Pronger should be suspended for at least 10 games, Simon got 30, and i am not saying that Prongers was as bad as Simons, but he deserves a suspension.

I don't know if anyone remembers when Pronger was playing the falmes and he stomped on Ville Neiminen's skate, he has gotten away with this before, he needs to be ...(more)
