Nate James joins Coach K's staff at Duke

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -Former Duke player Nate James was hired as an assistant by coach Mike Krzyzewski on Tuesday.

James helped the Blue Devils win their most recent national championship in 2001. He played on two Final Four squads, scoring 1,116 points from 1996-2001 on teams that went 71-9 in ACC regular season games.

James was in charge of Duke's program operations at the new practice facility.

Longtime assistant Johnny Dawkins left Duke last week to take the head coaching job at Stanford.

Also, Krzyzewski promoted assistants Steve Wojciechowski and Chris Collins to associate head coaches.
