FINAL RECORD
13-19, 5-11, tie-6th place in the Western Athletic Conference.
WHAT WENT RIGHT
Senior guards Kevin Bell and Eddie Miller were great. Bell was selected to the All-WAC first team and leaves the school as Fresno State's all-time leader in assists, while also leading the team in scoring this season (18.3 points per game).
When the 3-point shooting was there, the Bulldogs were a tough beat. With Eddie Miller leading the WAC with 113 3-pointers made, Fresno State stayed in a lot of games despite a general lack of paint presence.
WHAT WENT WRONG
With the program being on probation until 2010, Cleveland has said he relies heavily on transfers and junior college players because of the difficulty with recruiting freshman to a team on probation. Two transfers the Bulldogs relied heavily on this season let the team down. Louisville transfer Bryan Harvey was ruled academically ineligible before the spring semester and the start of WAC play and Kentucky transfer Rekalin Sims was kicked off the team after an arrest. He was never charged with a crime, but was said to have violated the student-athlete coed of conduct.
The team was never able to overcome its lack of post presence and was outrebounded by more than four boards a game.
QUOTE TO NOTE
"Our guys showed a lot of heart. It's been a challenging and difficult year but it hasn't been for a lack of effort." -- Fresno State coach Steve Cleveland.
