THE GOOD NEWS
G Tony Freeman, F Cyrus Tate and G Jake Kelly will give Iowa an experienced trio of returning starters to build around. Todd Lickliter established himself as one of the best young coaches in America at Butler, and his players seemed to buy into his system, which stresses defense.

THE BAD NEWS
G Justin Johnson, the team's best outside shooter, graduates. Iowa doesn't have an inside player who has established himself as a consistent scorer at the college level.

KEY RETURNEES
Freeman averaged a team-high 13.8 points and 3.2 assists per game and will be counted on to lead a relatively young team. G Matt Gatens, a high school player from Iowa City, Iowa, will be counted on to give his hometown school an immediate lift.

ROSTER REPORT

--G Justin Johnson made 93 3-pointers, the second-highest total in Iowa history. The record is 117, set by Chris Kingsbury in 1994-1995.

--G Tony Freeman missed 10 of the first 12 games while recovering from a broken foot but led the team in scoring with a 13.8 average. He scored in double-figures in 15 of his 22 games and had at least 20 points four times.

--F Cyrus Tate moved into the starting lineup at the start of Big Ten play when F Jarryd Cole underwent season-ending knee surgery and averaged 10.6 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the field.
