Lightning recall G Denis from AHL after starter Smith injured

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Lightning recalled goalie Marc Denis from Norfolk of the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

Denis replaces goalie Jonathan Boutin, who was reassigned to Norfolk a day after the Lightning recalled him from the minor league team on an emergency basis because starting goalie Mike Smith has a sprained left ankle.

Smith, who was hurt in practice Monday, is listed day to day.

Denis began the season with the Lightning and was assigned to Norfolk on Dec. 29. He played in 28 games with the Admirals, going 9-15-2 with a 3.02 goals-against average and .905 save percentage.

He has appeared in 348 NHL games with Colorado, Columbus and Tampa Bay.
