Mid-Continent Conference report

SportsLine Report
June 19, 2000

It appeared as though Kangaroos coach Bob Sundvold had things going in the right direction ... but school officials apparently didn't think so. Even though UMKC improved to 16-13 for the 1999-2000 season and are positioned as one of the conference favorites for the coming season, Sundvold's record still was 43-70 with just one winning record in his four years.

Now Dean Domopoulos gets his chance to do the job.

A 17-year assistant to John Chaney at Temple, Domopoulos takes over a competitive program with a decent stable of talent to work with as Sundvold recruited well in his final years. The best of the group is Michael Jackson, the Mid-Con Player of the Year last season.

  • With 10 league wins last season, the 'Roos tied their best showing ever in the Mid-Con.
  • In his 17 years at Temple, Domopoulos helped coach the Owls to 16 NCAA Tournament appearances. At UMKC, the Roos are looking for their first-ever appearance.
  • Sophomore Michael Jackson had 45 blocked shots last season, tying a school record.
