Round 1 Cyclones snooze, then dismiss 15th seed L 79-88

SportsLine.com Report
March 17, 2000

A Glance at 2001

CCSU will lose three senior starters, but having a well-balanced deep team means that other players are ready to step up. They might not be of the caliber of someone like Rick Mickens, but it's a good start.

Who'll Be Back

CCSU will return starters John Tice and Corsley Edwards while sixth man Dean Walker, who has played some forward as well as backing up Mickens at shooting guard will move into the lineup at the two-guard spot, his more natural position. He's also a capable point guard. Jeremy Bergh will continue to back up Edwards and Stein.

Who's Gone

Three starters: Mickens, Victor Payne and Tomas Brookins. Their combination of shooting, ball-handling, and defensive skills won't be replaced right away.

Key Newcomers

  • SG Shaaron Sinvilcin (6-1, 190, Fr.): He's a combination point/shooting guard who practiced with the team this season as a partial qualifier. He was the No. 2-rated high school guard in Connecticut last year behind Marcus Cox, who plays for UConn.
  • C Ryan Murphy (6-0, 210, Fr.): Murphy is a fall signee who is attending Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H. With Edwards and Bergh at center, CCSU can afford to bring him along slowly.
  • Others: CCSU will look to acquire at least two more players during the spring signing period.
