St. Francis (NY)
Northeast Conference reportSportsLine.com Report Led by senior forward Angel Santana, ranked fourth nationally among 3-point shooters, and junior guard Steven Howard, the 3-point Bombers from Brooklyn had a successful but erratic year. Consider that gone from this year's squad was 1999 NEC player of the year Ray Mineland (24.3 points per game), the results were even more rewarding. St. Francis launched over 700 treys, almost double that of its opponents, and finished second in the NEC in offense and first in 3-point baskets made. At one stretch the Terriers went 10-1 in the league before losing two of three on a season-ending home stand. They got by Monmouth in the NEC quarterfinals but fell to champion CCSU in the semifinals. A glance at 2001Howard and junior forward Richy Dominguez lead four returning starters. The coachRon Ganulin came to Brooklyn in 1991 after serving four years as an assistant to Jerry Tarkanian at UNLV during which the team went 126-23 and won the 1990 national championship. He guided the 1998-99 team to the program's best record (20-8) and first 20-win season since 1995-56. Along with UNLV was an assistant at St. Peter's, New York Tech, and C.W. Post. Who'll be backDominguez, Howard, point guard Greg Nunn, and center Herbeth Reyes. They'll be joined by sixth man Henry LaLane, sophomore center Cory Underwood, and guard Jamel Smiley, all of whom played meaningful minutes this year. Who's goneAll-time 3-point leader Santana and reserves Pritt Ilver, Gerald Walker, and Marcel Dimberg. |
