Northeast Conference reportSportsLine.com Report The Red Flash were something of a poor man's version of St. Francis (NY), a 3-point shooting club that was third in the league in 3-point baskets but lacked the athletic ability or physical presence of its Brooklyn namesake. After failing to qualify for the NEC Tournament last year, St. Francis returned as the No. 6 seed and was dispatched in the quarterfinals by Robert Morris. A glance at 2001Eight underclassmen return and will be joined by one redshirt freshman and a promising recruiting class. The coachBobby Jones was named the 19th coach in school history prior to the 1999-2000 season. A former all-Ohio Valley Conference performer at Western Kentucky (1981-84), Jones came to St. Francis after spending 1997-99 as an assistant at Minnesota. He also served on the staffs at Pitt, Western Kentucky, and Middle Tennessee State. Who'll be backGuards Earl Foreman and Jamal Ragland (No. 3 in the NEC in assists) and 6-7 sophomore leaper Reiner Mougnol are the most prominent returnees along with 6-5 sophomore forward Pete Fox who was sidelined by knee surgery. Artie Mills, a 6-4 guard, sat out as a redshirt. The Red Flash will sport a new look in the middle, headed by highly touted 6-10, 265 pound Milan Azanjac, the centerpiece of the incoming class that also includes Steveroy Daley and Brent Lawson. Who's goneLeading scorer Tom Fox, guard Rob Krimmel who was No. 2 in the NEC in 3-point percentage (.425), John McLean who was the scoring leader most of the season, and reserve Matt Walter. |
