The style of play of the run-and-gun all-out pressure defense of the Seahawks, who led the NEC in offense, steals, assists, and turnover margin, and a late-season win over eventual champion Central Connecticut State caused considerable excitement.

But, in the end, Wagner failed to qualify for the NEC Tournament when it blew a 17-point second-half lead at Quinnipiac on the final day of the regular season. Still, the 11 wins were the second most since Wagner won 16 games in 1993-94.

All 10 players on the roster return with several more scholarships to be handed out.

The coach

Dereck Whittenburg, former assistant at Georgia Tech (1994-99), is best known for his North Carolina State air ball that Lorenzo Charles stuffed home at the buzzer to defeat Houston in the 1983 NCAA championship game. Since 1985 he has been an assistant at six different schools including two stints at North Carolina State.

Who'll be back

NEC Rookie of the Year, guard Jermaine Hall, and NEC Second Teamer Dedrick Dye, as well as Jeff Klauder and Chris Jackson, all double figure scorers, lead the returning contingent.
