Scouting Report

  • A guy who has all the tools to be successful, except for one thing
  • He can't shoot
  • An instinctive, and at times explosive scorer, he has a great floor game that allows him to put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways
  • Gets a lot of his field goals going to or being around the rim in some form
  • Has a powerful drive and the leverage to finish
  • Cuts into the lane with his handle rather well
  • Has a nose for the ball, frequently collecting points by simply putting himself in position to be at the right place at the right time
  • Marvelous in transition, whether it is running or finishing in the open court
  • Also possessing a strong build, he has the touch to score underneath the basket or on the turnaround jumper in the low post
  • Hard-nosed finisher, though size factor does present it's problems
  • Quick feet give bigger defenders trouble sealing off the angle to the basket
  • Despite all this, the absence of a dependable outside shot simply serves as a limitation to his production
  • Will knock down open mid- range jumpers without a problem, but lacks range and doesn't shoot very well off the dribble once he gets past sixteen feet
  • As a defender, he fits in well to a pressing style because he has the speed and size that benefit the trap
  • Also a productive rebounder, he is very aggressive in the paint despite the fact that he undersized
  • Doesn't at all shy from contact and has the foot speed to react to rebounds at all angles
  • Especially impressive at the offensive end
  • When everyone else is in position waiting for the carom to come to them, he slips inside and goes for the board
  • A former McDonald's All-American
  • Father, Michael, Sr., starred at Southwest Missouri State
  • Once played against former North Carolina guard Michael Jordan.
