Tourney dynasties
Here is a quick summary why the following five schools have had the
most impact on the NCAA Tournament:
UCLA: Made 15 consecutive appearances from 1967-81, when the
field ranged from 23 to 48 teams, winning 10 titles in a 12-year span,
including seven in a row.
Indiana: One of two schools (Kentucky) to win the NCAA
championship in four different decades (1940, 1953, 1976, 1981 and 1987).
North Carolina: Only school to participate in the NCAA
Tournament every year since conferences were first permitted to have more
than one representative in 1975.
Kentucky: Only school to have a minimum of five coaches direct
teams to the NCAA Tournament and each of them compile a winning playoff
record with that university. Also has won championships in four different
decades (1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, and 1998).
Kansas: Only school to reach the Final Four under five different coaches.
Duke: Eleven consecutive tourney appearances, 12 Final Four appearances, eight since 1986, two titles.
