Elbowing

Back to glossary

An elbowing penalty is handed out to a player who fouls an opponent by using his elbow in an extended manner that may or may not cause injury. A two-minute minor is usually assessed for this infraction, although the referee has the discretion to impose a five-minute major if the offense results in an injury to the face or head of the victim. Should a major penalty be called, the offending player automatically receives a game misconduct and a $100 fine.
