How much longer are the Yankees going to have to put up with shoddy pitching? I think that it is about time for Roger Clemens to pay George Steinbrenner to stay on the team, if that isn't what he did already. I don't think he really wants a World Series ring, that is if the Yankees can get there again this year. I wish he would just go away. He has always been a whiner and he always will be.

Ian Browne's response

There is no doubting Roger Clemens' ego. Just as there is no doubting his desire to win. It is the only thing he has left to prove. He has a somewhat unfair reputation as a bad October pitcher when most of his previous playoff stints were ruined by either no run support, bullpen meltdowns, or terrible defense. There is no better stage for Clemens to get his ring and make you eat your words.

Doesn't it embarrass you folks to put crap like your baseball Power Rankings on the Internet. You guys have the Mets in a battle with Atlanta for the top National League team. Gee, I wonder if any of you are from New York?

Ian Browne's response

Have you watched a single Mets game this year? Or a single Braves game? The teams aren't that far apart right now. Keep your eye on the ball pal. Surely, the Mets can't be as polished at collapsing in October as the Braves, who have turned it into a science.

I mostly agree with your rankings, but I believe that the Indians should be ranked No. 1. It is true the Yankees are the defending World Champions, but that was last year, this is a new year and the rankings should be depended on how the team has been playing this year. It's not fair to judge a team by it's past experiences. Also, another reason why they should be No. 1 is that they do have the best record in baseball so far and they've been ahead of the Yankees ever since the season started. Of course, it is early in the season, but I believe that the rankings should be modified as the season progresses, but for now, the Indians should be on top. I hope you consider my request seriously, and I'm sure you won't regret it.

Ian Browne's response

You bring up a very valid point. The Indians are playing by far the best ball in either league right now, and if the rest of the panel sees it the way I do, they'll be back in the top spot this week. But unless they get another pitcher, it's hard for me to picture them beating the Yankees in the playoffs.

From Jon Falls

Get a clue. The Diamondbacks are a few blown saves away from 13 wins. With the bullpen coming together they're now well above your middle of the pack rankings. Their slugging and Atlanta-like starting pitching puts them near the top. I didn't even mention the much improved base running.

Ian Browne's response

Break up the Diamondbacks. I'll tell you what. If they make the playoffs, I'd be glad to do a victory lap in the stadium pool with Buck Showalter in early October.
