Saints continue offensive makeover, sign WR Horn
The New Orleans Saints, who began the overhauling of one of the NFL's worst
passing attacks with the Friday acquisition of quarterback Jeff Blake,
continued the upgrade Sunday. SportsLine has learned that the Saints have
reached agreement with wide receiver Horn, 28, will sign a four-year, $10 million contract that includes a signing bonus of $2.3 million. He can earn an additional $1.4 million in incentives that should be easily reachable if he earns a starting job in New Orleans. "He's a blue-collar guy who just wanted a chance to start, and it's pretty obvious he wasn't going to get it if he stayed in Kansas City," said Horn's agent, Ralph Vitolo. "We've always felt he would be a productive player if he got on the field more, so now it's up to him." A four-year pro, Horn got considerable playing time in 1999 but started just one game. Typically he would replace starter Andre Rison early in most contests. Horn posted career bests in every statistical category, with 35 catches for 586 yards and six touchdowns. For his career, he's played in 49 games and has 53 receptions for 879 yards and seven touchdowns. Horn entered the league as a fifth-round choice of the Chiefs in the '96 draft. He never played at a major college, having jumped to the CFL after two seasons at Itawamba (Miss.) Junior College.
