Mims, 29, collected six tackles in nine games for the San Diego Chargers last season before being waived on December 3.

Originally the Chargers first-round pick in 1992, Mims spent his first five seasons with San Diego before leaving for a one-year stint with Washington in 1997. He returned to San Diego in 1998, but played in only six games. Overall in his career, the 6-5, 300-pounder has collected 42 sacks in 104 games.

McMillon has spent the last three seasons in the Canadian Football League, playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

Since the free agent period began last Friday, the Bears have also added cornerback Thomas Smith and defensive end Phillip Daniels to a unit that ranked 29th in defense in 1999.
