E. Illinois advances to semifinals of Ohio Valley Tourney
The Panthers were ahead 71-63 with 1:10 left in regulation, but Austin Peay then made five 3-pointers, the last by Nick Stapleton with five seconds remaining to send the game into overtime tied at 80. Eastern Illinois (17-11) built an 89-84 lead with 2:04 left in the first overtime, but Peay, led by Stapleton, battled back to force a second overtime with the game tied at 91. Hill made a 3-pointer early in the second overtime and a 15-footer to put the Panthers up 100-93 with three minutes left. Peay (18-10) battled back to make the score 101-100 with 1:24 left. Eastern Illinois then scored six consecutive points to secure the win. Game summary Middle Tenn. 87, Tenn. Tech 70COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Lee Nosse scored 32 points Tuesday night to help No. 6 seed Middle Tennessee beat No. 3 seed Tennessee Tech. Middle Tennessee (15-12), which has won 10 of its last 12 games, jumped out to a 10-3 lead and never trailed. The Blue Raiders went on to lead by as many as 23 points, 60-37, following a hook shot by Liro Tenngren with 10:57 left to play. Tennessee Tech (16-12) got within 12 points twice. The last time was 82-70 on a 3-pointer by Corey Hemphill at the 1:12 mark. Middle Tennessee shot 65 percent from the field in the second half, while Tennessee Tech shot 32 percent. Cedrick Wallace finished with 15 points for Middle Tennessee, while Jonathan Whitworth contributed 11 and Tenngren chipped in 10. Josh Heard led Tennessee Tech with 17 points and Hemphill finished with 11. Murray State 83, Tennessee State 58MURRAY, Ky. -- Aubrey Reese scored a game-high 24 points and Ray Cunningham scored 22 to lead Murray State over Tennessee State. Murray State (22-8) led by 20 points at 51-31 in the first six minutes of the second half. The Racers' biggest lead of the night came at 81-52 on a jumper by Cunningham with 2:28 left in the game. Murray State led 27-18 with 5:30 left in the first half, and the Racers coasted to their biggest lead of the half, 39-22, on a jumper by Marlon Towns. The Racers led 43-26 at halftime. Isaac Spencer added 14 points for Murray State. Jamie Roberts led the Tigers (7-22) with 23 points. Murray State shot 31-of-68 for 45 percent overall, but only hit 2-of-20 from 3-point range. Tennessee State was 21-of-58 for 36 percent and 4-of-18 from behind the arc. The Racers also outrebounded the Tigers 42-40. Murray State will face Eastern Illinois Saturday in the semifinals in Nashville. In the other tournament game of the night, Southeast Missouri State beat Tennessee-Martin 76-74.
