Broncos sign CB Spencer
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- In a continuing effort to
revitalize their defense, the Denver Broncos Monday signed free
agent cornerback Terms were not disclosed for Spencer, who spent the last two seasons with the San Diego Chargers. Spencer, 30, played in 14 games with San Diego last season, starting seven. He recorded 49 tackles -- 41 solo -- four interceptions and 16 passes defensed. Originally a 1991 eighth-round pick of the Washington Redskins, Spencer began his career with the New Orleans Saints a season later. After four years with the Saints, he signed as an unrestricted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals. An eight-year veteran, Spencer has started 72 of his 124 career games, posting 20 interceptions. He has recorded 369 tackles, 108 passes defensed and six fumble recoveries. Spencer marks the fourth defensive player and second cornerback to sign with the Broncos during the offseason. Jeremy Lincoln agreed with Denver after a two-year stint with the New York Giants.
