KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- Illinois assistant Robert McCullum was hired as Western Michigan's basketball coach Wednesday.

McCullum replaces Bob Donewald, who coached for 11 years before being assigned this month to special assistant to the athletic director. Donewald had a 151-155 record with the Broncos.

McCullum spent four years at Illinois. Before that, he was an assistant at Florida, Kansas State, Southern Illinois, South Alabama and Samford.
