FULLERTON, Calif. -- Donny Daniels, an assistant at Utah the last 11 years, was hired Thursday as head basketball coach at Cal State-Fullerton, which hasn't had a winning season since 1993.

Daniels, 45, signed a four-year contract at his alma mater, where he played on Fullerton's first Division I basketball teams in 1975 and '76. He was an assistant coach for the Titans three separate times from 1978 to '89, when he was named an assistant to Rick Majerus at Utah.
