LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- Porter Moser was introduced Thursday as men's basketball coach at Arkansas-Little Rock, replacing former NBA star Sidney Moncrief, who resigned last week after one season to take a job with the Dallas Mavericks.

Moser, 31, an assistant with the Trojans for the last two seasons, has been the program's main recruiter.

"I honestly feel I'm the right man for the job and I'm excited to take this job over," Moser said. "I know the lay of the land here. I know the people here. I've recruited here."

Moser said he wants to play an up-tempo style of basketball, making the game exciting for the fans and giving his team a home court advantage. The Trojans began playing home games last year in a new arena that seats about 18,000, but crowds were sparse.

Moser's first head coaching job will see him take over a team that went 4-24 and finished last in the Sun Belt Conference.

Athletic director Rick Mello said Moser was one of 10 coaches interviewed.

Moser has been coaching college basketball since he graduated from Creighton in 1990. He led the Missouri Valley Conference that season with 61 3-pointers.

Moser was an assistant at Texas A&M from 1991-95, spent one year as an assistant at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and then returned to A&M for two years.

"He's the right man. I'm glad they kept it inside the family. He's a big part of the system," junior Troy Moore said. "I think it was a good decision to hire him because all the players are going to stay."
