NEW ORLEANS -- Tulane guard Waitari Marsh, who was slated to be the team's lone returning starter when the season begins next month, will not compete during the fall semester after failing to meet NCAA continuing eligibility standards.
The 6-foot-2 Marsh, who averaged 8.0 points and 3.7 rebounds while collecting team highs of 132 assists and 48 steals last season, can participate in workouts and practices and regain his eligibility following the first semester.
In addition, Sherod Teasley and David Hawkins, who were to be freshmen for the Green Wave, will not be members of the team, new coach Shawn Finney announced.
Teasley, a guard from Virginia, did not meet NCAA initial eligibility standards and his waiver appeal was denied. Hawkins, a guard from Washington, chose not to honor his letter of intent and did not enroll in school.
"Despite these losses, we are excited about the upcoming season," said Finney, who replaced Perry Clark. "We'll be a little thin at the guard position, but we're going to play an aggressive, up-tempo, running style that will be a lot of fun to watch."
Finney also announced that freshmen Michael Harris and Justin Amick will be added to the roster. Harris is a 6-1 guard from Washington and the 6-foot Amick is a walk-on from Atlanta.
