Notes, quotes, anecdotes | Strategy and personnel
An erratic season for the Hoyas ended, appropriately, with an overtime loss to Miami in the Big East tournament. Despite a 19-win season, Georgetown turned down a NIT bid, citing the effect travel would have on the team's academic work.
With senior guard Kevin Braswell and sophomore Mike Sweetney, a dominant interior player, Georgetown seemed to have the talent to be one of the Big East best teams. Unfortunately, the Hoyas couldn't win close games. Georgetown's season was derailed by a 0-4 record in overtime games, including a 116-111 quadruple-overtime loss to Notre Dame. While Sweetney was dominant throughout the year, Braswell, the team's floor general, was plagued by inconsistent play.
