SCOTTISH Claymores and Dallas Cowboys quarterback Clint Stoerner chatted with NFLEurope.com.
Stoerner, who led the Claymores to victory by throwing 2 touchdown passes in NFL Europe Week 1, will chat to fans about his World Bowl ambitions and his future hopes with the Dallas Cowboys.
Stoerner saw brief action for the Cowboys in 2000, throwing his first career TD pass against San Francisco. To chat with Clint, join the chat room at the allotted time.
Clint Stoerner: Thanks for joining us and being involved. It is going good over here and I look forward to communicating with you and seeing how you are!
Question: Hi Clint! How good did that first victory feel last week? How did you think your play went overall?
Clint Stoerner: The victory was good. Any time you get a win feels good. Personally I felt we made some things happen in the 1st half. I played ok but could have done better. I always say that. Throwing the ball accurately and making the reads I did well. I would have rather thrown downfield more but it was a W and I feel good about it.
Question: I think, this year is the year of the QB's in NFLE. How do you handle with the pressure? Do you think you are "the leader" of the claymores?
Clint Stoerner: Being the QB you have to be a leader. How you handle it and what kind of leader you are (vocal or physical) depends on how you are. There are good QBs here with Quinn and Carmazzi and all. The league has proven in the past to be a good league for QBs. If you do well here you get a chance back home so it is definitely useful.
Question: Clint - Do you think the experience of playing everyday in the NFL Europe will help develop you and get your ready to play on a daily basis in the NFL?
Clint Stoerner: No doubt! Not only will I be in game condition going into NFL training camp but Coach is great from a technical standpoint. What I am learning in practice has been very beneficial for me too, I think.
Question: What is Claymores head coach Gene Dahlquist like?
Clint Stoerner: I think he is very mental. A mental coach. Fundamental with mechanics. He knows a lot about the game and the QB position. Personally I like him as a coach because he doesn't believe in a lot of criticism and yelling on the field. He treats everyone equal and I like that. He gives everyone a chance and speaks to you on the same level as him. I think that is something guys my age will respond to and respond well.
Question: Who is the most experienced receiver on the Claymores?
Clint Stoerner: I would say Lonny Mitchell. Unfortunately we lost him for a few weeks before the first game! He is the most polished receiver. But many have talent. There is Cooper who has played here a few years. He knows where to be on the field. And some great athletes like Hall and Williams. They're all a good group of playmakers.
Question: What do you think about the Fans in Europe?
Clint Stoerner: I have been surprised. The first game we didn't expect many fans. Not many know of us and know what we do it seems. Then you get to the first game and there are 16-17,000 fans who are loud as ever! It was overwhelming how loud they got! It was fun and hopefully they will continue to grow.
Question: How do you find living in Scotland?
Clint Stoerner: Besides the fact we live in a hotel, it is fun! You live the traveling life as far as football goes. Eating in restaurants and all. They are all nice people. There is anything you want here, we stay downtown. The facilities are great and it is something I am really enjoying.
Question: What is the thing you are missing most about home?
Clint Stoerner: Probably just being home. Being able to see the people I care about -- family and friends and those I love. Being away from them for 3 months and then 3 more weeks in Tampa is tough. It is an experience we will all remember. Looking back we would never change it. But I do miss home., no doubt.
Question: Which team do you think will give the Claymores the most challenging game in the league this year
Clint Stoerner: Good question! Had to say after one game. I have only seen Amsterdam and the team we played last week on film. We will have to see when we play them. It is a hard question to answer.
Question: What other players on the Claymores roster besides yourself do you see going to the NFL?
Clint Stoerner: I think several do. Some are already there. Humphries, Whelan, Hall.. they have already played. There are several more who will have a shot. I can't name them all. It is a matter of staying healthy.
Question: Do you think you will have a chance to compete w/ Tony Banks, Quincy Carter for a spot?
Clint Stoerner: I would hope so! I don't know the plans and I can't control it. I can just be the best I can here and that is my priority. Doing my best to win a world bowl. I can't worry about the rest at this point.
Clint Stoerner: Thanks for joining me. I apologize for the delay. I appreciate your support and I hope to see you at the next game. Bye!
