Joe Namath 1962-1964
6' 2" - 190 lbs - Quarterback - Beaver Falls, Pennslvania Even though a knee injury severely limited his playing time in his senior year, Joe Namath was still instrumental in leading the Crimson Tide to a national title. The venerable number 12 came off the bench in the 1965 Orange Bowl to complete 18 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns to earn Most Valuable Player honors in the Tide's 21-17 loss to Texas. An All-American and All-SEC choice at Alabama, Namath went on to an NFL Hall of Fame career with the New York Jets, highlighted by a Super Bowl III MVP performance in 1969. He tied with Ken Stabler for Alabama's quarterback of the decade for the '60s. |

Despite fact that Alabama lost 1965 Orange Bowl to Texas, 21-17, Namath was voted game's Most Valuable Player While at Alabama (including bowl appearances), Joe ran for 15 touchdowns and gained 628 yards on the ground for a combined total of 44 touchdowns and 3,652 yards - accumulating more than two miles of total yardage. |
