49ers rookie McQuarters talks about adjusting to NFLChat transcriptSept. 30, 1998 R.W. McQuarters: I'm ready to take your questions Question: What's it like to be drafted by the 49ers?
R.W. McQuarters: It's a team that's classy, an organization that's classy. It really feels good to be a part of this organization, and on top of it we're winning. Question: Have you adjusted to the Bay Area? R.W. McQuarters: I enjoy some aspects, a lot of traffic, more than what i'm used to in Tulsa, but i'm adjusting to it. Question: Is it hard having to learn all the new plays for the first time especially because you're in NFL now? R.W. McQuarters: i wouldn't say hard. The hardest thing was how much you had to learn at one time. I had gotten to cover a lot of the stuff in the camps. It's also a matter of learning the techniques that the coach wants you to learn. R.W. McQuarters: by Mariucci being the type of guy that he is, everybody respects him and it makes playing together a whole lot easier. Question: What's the best thing about being a rookie? R.W. McQuarters: The best thing about being a rookie is the second year, because you're not a rookie anymore. Question: Hi R.W.! I'm a huge 49ers fan. I'm a 16-year-old teenager. I have a lot of goals set for myself but it always seems like someone is bringing me down. What should I do in order to reach my goals and succeed? R.W. McQuarters: keep your dreams alive, keep your head up. a lot of people will try to bring you down, but you have to be a strong individual and know what you want to do in life in order to be successful. and always have someone on your side that you can talk to. Question: Has it been helpful having veteran players around to show you the ropes? R.W. McQuarters: it's both, they are hand-in-hand. When you have veteran guys, they really know what to expect, and so does an experienced coaching staff. Question: how much will the loss of Fiore affect the team? R.W. McQuarters: I think whenever you lose a starter it hurts the team in a big way. You have to find backup guys that can do the job. I don't know who they have backing him up, and i don't know what's going to happen, but losing a starter will always hurt the team. R.W. McQuarters: I'm sorry, but i really have to run. Thanks a lot for being here today! |
