Run for the ages

Garrison Hearst
Hearst makes a record-breaking touchdown run. (Reuters)
Garrison Hearst's thrilling 96-yard touchdown run could be one of those marks that goes unbroken for years to come. Not only did the run shatter Hugh McElhenny's 46-year-old record, it will go down as the as the longest game-winning run in overtime in the history of the NFL. In an age where linemen are as fast and swift as most running backs, the chances of another NFL player running for a 96-yard overtime touchdown are slim.

    Back with a vengeance
Jerry Rice said he felt 'like a rookie again' until catching that all-important first pass from Steve Young and taking a crunching hit. After that, the NFL's premier receiver said he knew he was back for good.

    Best of the West
Playing in the NFC West, the 49ers look to be a lock for their 11th division title in the past 13 years. So the biggest question around the Bay area lately has been: Is Jerry Rice going to be back to normal?

    Holding his place
Rookie place-kicker Wade Richey quickly won his teammates' respect, but he'll have to work hard to keep it. If Richey can handle the pressure of kicking in 3Com Park, he could prove to be a godsend for the 49ers.
