Athletic, versatile linebacker has been a key performer for the tough Wolverine defense over the past three seasons as a starter. Jones was moved inside as a senior after starting on the outside initially as a sophomore. He has good speed, which allows him to make tackles sideline to sideline. He has nice instincts to go with quick reactions that puts him in position to make plays consistently over the course of the game.
As a senior, he made 81 tackles with 13 TFLs and 3 sacks. Though he was productive from the inside, he struggles at times getting off bigger blockers at the point of attack. He has improved in pass coverage and has learned zone pass defense from several positions but is not an accomplished performer in that area yet. He has shown the ability to play over the tight end and run with him in coverage.
He maybe best suited for the strong side where his mobility and speed will allow him to make more plays. As a junior, he made 72 tackles, 11 TFLs, 3 sacks and 3 PBUs on the outside. This followed a sophomore season that saw him register 90 tackles, 9 TFLs, 4 sacks, 1 pick and 1 PBU on one of college football's most dominant units.
He was a key defender on the undefeated Michigan defense, that shutdown virtually every opponent on the season. Good athlete with the skills to fill a few roles especially special teams. He could be a surprise starter with refinement on his reads and technique. At the combine, he ran a 4.69 time and did 29 reps. Solid late pick with the talent to be a nice role player.
