Speedy tailback finished a brief career with the Wildcats after a highly publicized junior college stay. Murphy came to KSU after being named the National Junior College Player of the Year in '97 at Garden State. At Garden State, he ran for 26 TDs, as the best game-breaker in the country. His stay with KSU has been marred by injuries and eligibility problems.

His '98 start was delayed the first four games of the season due to an NCAA sanction. He is a talented athlete who possesses world class speed that set a new KSU record in the spring of '99 with a 4.22 time. He also set a new record with a 42" vertical leap.

As a senior, he rushed for 541 yards on 97 carries and 6 TDs. He had two surgeries in the past year, one an ankle and the other a foot operation. He is a big lanky back with a long stride and a high knee motion when running with the ball. He has a history of fumbling and has never really lived up to his workout numbers on the field.

In a shortened '98 season he ran for 257 yards on 55 carries for 5 TDs and 3 receptions. He has been a factor as a kickoff returner and it will be his best chance to land a job in the NFL. He is similar to Michael Bates in size, talent and speed. Late round pick with a checkered past who defines the boom or bust label.
