Athletic tackle has been a four-year starter for the Tigers on both sides of the line. James is a sturdy athlete with the footwork and agility the pro scouts look for in an interior lineman. He bends his knees well to get under an opponent and gets good use of his big hands which allows him to control an opponent. He lacks a huge reach, which will force him inside to guard where he has the tools to be a nice surprise.

He has developed good pass blocking skills playing the left tackle position and has graded out high over his entire career against some of the best pass rushers in the country. He has had his periods of inconsistency especially as a run blocker where he tries to finesse a defender instead of using his powerful base to open the hole.

He had a respectable week at the Senior Bowl, but did not impress to the point where he increased his stock. He’s an athletic lineman with the size and agility to play in the NFL but he must show he wants it in camp. He’s a risky pick.
