Athletic linebacker has started 30 times over his four starting seasons in the Pac 10 despite several operations on an injured foot. Towns made a fine comeback this season after returning from an injury marred '98 season that saw him undergo two foot operations in addition to an ankle sprain.

He has a sturdy athletic frame and checked in at the Senior Bowl weigh-in at just under 6'2" and a trim 248 lbs. He gets great use of this strong frame to deliver powerful hits and has made 259 stops over his career. His injuries have hindered his once 4.7 speed, but he proved over the course of the '99 season that it was returning gradually. He ran well at the Senior Bowl, showing sideline to sideline speed that made him one of the most feared defenders in the Pac 10 in the late '90s.

As a senior, he started 10 of 11 games, sitting out one start because the Huskies played a nickel defense that game. For the season, he totaled 69 tackles with 9 TFLs, 1 FR and 3 PBUs. He is a big physical athlete who can run to the ball and make bone-jarring hits in the open field. He may be best suited for inside in a 3-4 where his ability to run will be best utilized.

He has never recorded an interception, despite showing the change of direction skills and awareness to play in pass coverage. It is an area that needs further work. As a junior, he started 7 games despite the foot and ankle problems and registered 63 tackles, 10 TFLs, 2 FF and 4.5 sacks. He had several gallant efforts, one vs. Cal when he recorded 12 tackles and one vs. USC, which earned him Player of the Week.

His best overall season came during his sophomore season when he totaled 89 tackles with 16 TFLs, 2 FF, 1 FR, 4 PBUs and 5 sacks. It was during that off-season when he appeared ready to emerge as one of the premier playmakers on the west coast as a junior that he injured his foot. Hard hitting defender with some medical concerns on persistent foot injuries.

His durability is a concern and will force him into the latter rounds on that alone. Aggressive defender with the tools to be a major late steal if he can prove to be healthy.
