Smart senior safety completed an outstanding career in the Big 12, the last two seasons as a first team all conference performer. Brown has led the Nebraska tough defense in tackles the past three seasons, showing linebacker type hitting skills.

As a senior, he made 96 tackles with 8 TFLs, 2 sacks, 6 FC, 1 FR, 5 PBUs and 5 picks which earned him a nominee for both the Jim Thorpe and Bronko Nagurski awards. He has fine instincts, which combined with his quickness and sure tackling skills, have allowed him to be one of the premier safeties in the land. He is quick to the ball and takes fine angles of pursuit, with the toughness and agility to get through traffic.

Though he lacks the prototypical size desired, he is a strong defender who gets off blocks well and displays the ability to make and finish plays. As a junior, he recorded 102 tackles with 5 TFLs, 4 PBUs and 1 interception. His cover skills have improved each season, though he breaks down in single assignments at times.

He is more comfortable in zone coverage where he knows his keys and can run to the ball to make plays. He has excellent instincts and is a coach on the field where he directs players during changes in assignments. At the Senior Bowl practices, he was very active, showing the ability to react quickly and make plays.

He has fine change of direction skills and showed the ability to cover the tight end consistently well. He does have some match up problems due to height that may limit him to a two down defensive player. At the combine, he ran a 4.56 time with a 36" vertical leap, a 9'8" broad jump and did 14 reps in the lifting. He is very tough and durable and has been a key reason why the Nebraska defense ranks with the best in the country annually.

He is similar to former Cornhusker Mike Minter in size, athleticism and big play ability. He is ideally suited for the strong safety spot where his coverage limitations can be minimized. He is capable of helping immediately on special teams as a defender.

He has the well-developed skills to play early in his NFL career and maybe even as a rookie starter. Tough defender with good athletic skills and the intangibles necessary to succeed in the NFL.
