Shane Griggs, Idaho State
Quarterback, 6-4, 190 Speed: 4.7, Rating 60
Combine Numbers
Talented small-college passer completed an abbreviated career with a strong senior season. Griggs returned to the field in 2000 after missing most of the past three seasons due to injury, transfer and a redshirt season. He has good arm strength with an accurate touch that allows receivers to make plays on the ball. As a senior, he threw for 2,816 yards on 208 completions of 399 attempts. He threw 18 TDs with 13 interceptions in his most extended action since his freshman season in '96. As a junior in '99, he opened with two strong games before going down with a knee injury that required a complete reconstruction. He transferred to South Carolina in '97 and sat out the season, but returned to Idaho State in '98 and redshirted.
He is a poised passer with good pocket sense and the physical ability to make all the throws. He has shown improvement in his reads, though he still tends to throw into heavy coverage at times. He has good mobility in the pocket with the ability to make plays on the move. He needs further coaching and playing time to develop his tools further. Developmental passer with talent and nice upside, but needs time and patience. Ideal NFL Europe candidate and third-string passer who has the tools to move up and challenge as a top backup or marginal starter.
