MONTGOMERY, W.Va. (AP) Drew Catlett resigned Thursday after less than three months as WVU-Tech's men's basketball coach so that he could pursue a Division I job.

Catlett took his first head coaching job in May with the Division II Golden Bears. He was the interim coach at West Virginia for the final five games last season after his uncle, Gale Catlett, retired Feb. 14.

WVU-Tech Athletic Director Mike Springston said the resignation was a shock to him.

"But at the same time, having been in this business 25 years, it's not," Springston said. "The coaching carousel rolls quickly."

WVU-Tech must look for its third coach in the past year. Steve Tucker resigned midway through his first season. WVU-Tech finished 7-19 last season after going 18-9 the year before.

Springston said he expects to name a new coach by Monday.
