OWENSBORO, Kentucky (Ticker) -- Former New Mexico guard Marlon Parmer, one of several players to leave a troubled Lobos program, has landed at Division II national champion Kentucky Wesleyan, the school announced on Monday. Parmer, an Inglewood, California native, started 13 of 16 games a year ago and averaged 12.8 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.4 assists as the Lobos' point guard before being dismissed on January 23. Parmer was one of several players to have trouble with the abrasive style of former New Mexico coach Fran Fraschilla. "Marlon brings a wealth of talent and ability to our program," Kentucky Wesleyan coach Ray Harper said. "He gives us the quickness and speed that we needed in the backcourt. There is no doubt that he will be the best point guard that I have ever coached at Kentucky Wesleyan." Parmer averaged 11.6 points and 4.0 rebounds as a junior at New Mexico and was Fraschilla's first recruit three seasons ago. Under NCAA rules, Parmer is eligible to play this season for the Panthers. Kentucky Wesleyan has posted five straight 30-win seasons and has appeared in the NCAA title game five straight years. Copyright © 2002 SportsTicker Enterprises, L.P. |
