ATHENS, Greece -- A Greek swimmer has tested positive for a banned substance in an initial test sample, the Hellenic Swimming Federation said Tuesday.

The federation did not name the swimmer or the substance, saying a test must be conducted on a second "B" sample before the name can be announced.
The positive result came from an out-of-competition test by the country's national anti-doping council. Initially, the council had informed the federation on April 1 that the result was negative, but subsequent testing on the same sample showed it was positive, the federation said, adding that it was informed of the latest result on Tuesday.
Greece's anti-doping council said it could not comment on the issue until all procedures had been completed.
The federation "expresses its sadness for this isolated event, which in no case can blacken the hundreds of athletes of our national teams and five Olympic events," it said in a statement.
The announcement comes just weeks after 11 of Greece's 13-member weightlifting team tested positive for a banned substance. That team's former coach has blamed a faulty batch of nutrition supplements from China for the test result.
